A clinical study* using borage oil on infants with "cradle cap" showed significant results:
The babies were treated twice a day with topically applied borage oil. Within two weeks the condition cleared up. If treatment was discontinued, the symptoms returned until the infants’ own systems matured at around 7 months of age.
Research indicates that chronic skin problems can be due to an insufficient supply of an essential fatty acid called Gamma-linolenic acid, which is required for the formation and maintenance of healthy skin cells. Many infants and children, as well as adults, simply do not have enough GLA in their systems. Topical application of borage oil has been shown to help.
